ORDINARY PASSPORT

According to Article Twelve (12) of the Passport Law, Ordinary Passport is issued in accordance with Afghan ID (Tazkera) for five (5) years to individuals who intend to travel outside of the country. Ordinary Passport is issued by the Ministry of Interior Affairs within the country and in overseas by the Diplomatic and Consular Missions of Afghanistan based on special procedure. The Ordinary Passport can be used to do business, work and pursue education, as well as for children and persons suffering from mental disorder, under the terms of Articles 15, 16, 17 and 18 of the Passport Law.

Required Documents or Issuance of Passport
As per Article (19) of the Passport Law, the required documents are as following:

  • National ID Card (Tazkera)
  • Application or letter from the relevant authority
  • National ID Card (Tazkera)
  • Four (4) passport size photo (4x4.5)
  • Filling out the passport application form; and 
  • Receipt of the passport processing fee

Obstacles to the Issuance of Passport
As per the Article (25) of the Passport Law, the obstacles are as following:

  • Having debt or default from the government worth more than (50,000AFG);
  • Issued Travel ban on applicant for civil, commercial and criminal cases based on the order of a court; and
  • Children without parents, parent or legal guardian

TRAVEL DOCUMENT 

As per the Article (24) of the Passport Law, Travel Document shall be issued by the diplomatic and consular representations of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the following people

  • Afghan Citizens who have no passport and have returned to their homeland; and
  • After the verification of MoFA and the Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoI), foreign citizens that their country has no diplomatic and consular representation in Afghanistan
